Is it just me or is word verification getting crazier and crazier? It's like aliens have taken over and are secretly encoding thier language in us via word verification. I just visited a blog buddy and left a comment, but not before having to decipher the word verification: Offinar Huntat. What the heck is that? I can barely read these things on a full size desktop and if I'm on my phone...just forget it!
If you have not previously had a problem with spam, consider simply disallowing anonymous comments. Not only does it prevent the meanies from doing a drive-by-soul crush, it also prevents a ton of spam. I also enabled comment moderation for comments over 1 month old. In the last year or so this has been my only form of anti-spam and besides a few spams that went straight to my spam box, I've avoided the whole ugly mess.
How can you do this through blogger? It's easy. Go to the Dashboard and click under the "Comments" tab...you know, the one right by the "posting" tab. There you will find all the options I've just mentioned and more.
Just something to consider to make it easier for others to comment and tell you how much they enjoyed what they saw on your blog!
PS I don't really believe in aliens.
PPS Except ALF
I still allow anonymous comments (and without word verification because it drives me crazy) simply so my mom can comment!! So far I haven't had too much spammy stuff, but lately it's been getting more so, I may have to tell her to get a google account or just send me an email! I do like the idea of adding comment moderation for comments over 1 month old because sometimes it's on really old posts that I get spammed. Fortunately though, most of the time blogger snags it and it doesn't actually end up on my blog, though I still receive comment notification.
ReplyDeleteWhat, you don't believe in ET? I dislike the word verification, too. I disabled it already.
ReplyDeleteYeah it has gotten to where I almost never leave a comment if that darn word verification comes up.
ReplyDeleteOne tip, if it is still applicable - I had to switch to the old version of blogger to turn off word verification. I could not find any options for that in the new version. I saw someone else comment about that on another blog.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I have started to leave comments say the new word verify and just passed on the comment. As a matter of fact I left a comment on my own blog just to make sure I wasn't causing others the same headache. Thanks for tips.
ReplyDeleteit's not just you! I really don't like work verification and it has stopped me from leaving a comment at times.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nightmare, I'm dyslexic and it's hard enough reading normal words without bending and twisting them and making them nonsensical!
ReplyDeleteOMG, right?! The facebook word verifcation went insane on me last night. It took over a half an hour to post a link!! Off to edit that setting now...
ReplyDeleteOh I agree, none of the words make sense now....RSTKHJWER.... just kidding but that's what they seem like.
ReplyDeleteI finally took the word verification off after getting numerous people to help and switching over to the old dashboard.... then I got spam and porn links!! so I changed it to be registered users....
Sometimes I think that the 'words' sound like they should be some cratures name from Stargate or Star Trek or some other SciFi show! It is probably a good thing there is noone around when I do my blog reading because I always try to pronounce the words! I am cool that way! LOL
