Too much of a good thing???

Awesome pattern? Jewel Box (w/a Mary twist) Check!
Awesome fabric? Happy Campers...CHECK!
Awesome recipient? CHECK!

So why am I HATING this quilt top? It's just too busy for me. I think I should have made the chain all one color or used a solid for the squares where the chain meets...something to create a little order. Maybe it is the curse of the bed quilt (though I really really like his brother's Happy Camper bed quilt...).  I am seriously considering taking it apart and letting it be 2 quilts instead, but I have never undertaken a redo project that intense.

So have you ever made something that seemed so right in your head but in real life was a disaster?

  1. But you know the recipient will LOVE all the colors. And it does look like a jewel box. I love it.

  2. If I keep it together, how do I quilt it?

I'm not quilting this until after this weekend for sure.

  3. Hi Mary. I have started reading your blog since I found you on the Moda Bake Shop. I think the quilts you make are gorgeous, and this one is no exception! Its really lovely. Maybe a plain border will tone it down a little for you, but I think it works well as it is. As for quilting...an all over meander/stipple? Good luck and don't pull it apart. Please.

  4. I dont think it is too busy. I think you should leave it for a while and then come back and you may find you will like it. Instead of pulling it apart make a new quilt and leave this one in the back of the cupboard for a while.

  5. I love this quilt. The colors go together so well with a scrappy feel to it. Not a disaster at all.

  6. Mary - maybe you could do some sort of cross-hatch quilting through the points of the squares??? :)

I agree with Lexi - don't pull it apart. Stay the course......it will be fabulous! :)

  7. Mar-lane!! Please do not pull it apart. throw it my way if you plan to throw it any where. I think you would be sad if you undid it... the quilt festival may safe its life... Just wait until after you look at others this weekend...
