I woke up this morning and decided that today was a good day to baste this big honkin' Great Granny Square quilt. I went upstairs to my big ironing board to have more room only to realize that my "real iron" is like a toy compared to my crafting iron. This is how you know you are a quilter for real.
During this time I reflected on something that happened to me this week...I got my first vitriolic comment. It was tucked away in comment moderation because it was on an older post. Before you console me, please know that I am completely ok! I have read many a rant about keeping it nice on the internet and I agree that you should be a nice person. The thing I don't get, though, is getting worked up about it. I know a few people who are out and out rude in every day life. I'm not talking about blunt, I'm talking completely abrasive & obnoxious. I'm sure you know a few, too. In real life, though, I tend to discount these people's opinions...it's just their M.O. to be miserable or bossy. Anyone who doesn't have the grace & kindness to at least try to get along with others is not someone whose opinion means a whole lot to me...that doesn't change when they are hiding behind a computer screen. I'm sure if you think about it, you'll feel that way, too.
I really wanted to put this quilt "on point" and do a black insta-border like this favorite of mine. In the end, I had messed up on math many, many times and just could not bear the thought of even MORE MATH and even worse...MORE BLOCKS! My awesome blog buddy (and Moda Bake Shop Superstar) Cindy sent me scraps from an American Jane project and when I say "scraps", I mean that in the most generous sense. I think there was a yard of the black/white alphabet that inspired me to do the cornerstones. I will always remember Cindy's kindness when I see this quilt.
I am going to try to get a little fancy on this quilt. Please give me a suggestion or send me a link if you've seen one of these Great Granny Squares quilted up beautifully!
This is my backing fabric...and my spray baste messy iron. |

Oh, I can't wait to see it quilted! But then I might want to make another one!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the quilt ,quilted.I keep saying I am going to make one.
ReplyDeleteWaaaah, what kind words. Love your quilt. Love that you loved the scraps more. I really didn't have a use for them.
ReplyDeleteToo funny about the difference in irons. I don't even have an iron for clothing....unless you count the oneI bought for quilting. Lol. I wear all of my clothes wrinkled!
Wow, this quilt is gorgeous! I can't wait to see it all finished up. You do fantastic work.
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see how you end up quilting it! I cannot imagine anybody having anything but positive to say about any of your posts. Mean people suck!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Mean people do suck, glad you are above it all....the original granny square quilt Jolene made was quilted pretty cool I thought. love your black cornerstones! Rock on!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is a beauty!! I love it so much - back included! And I love the way you summed up your thought on obnoxious people. Well put!
ReplyDeleteI love the great granny! Some people have time to waste don't they, with their quest to be negative and vitriolic?
ReplyDeleteWho was it? You want I should mess her up? Nobody gets vitriolic with my MLB. Googling vitriolic now....
ReplyDeleteLoving that Granny square quilt top. I HATE the math part of quilting. Scares me senseless. So sorry about the mean comment. My mother taught me that if I can't say something nice, then keep my mouth shut, that goes for my fingers, too. Unfortunately there are always people that are jealous of what others can do, that they cannot do themselves.
ReplyDeleteI'm dying. This quilt is so flippin' great i can't stand it!
ReplyDeleteyou know I love this and NEED the pattern... Hey,, every time I come to your blog, I am NOT on your list of followers. I have to sign myself back up.. Reckon what am I doing wrong. It will show I am there when I leave and then poof... what you think is causing this?
