Moda Bake Shop Sweet Celebrations Blog Hop

{Giveaway now closed!}

Welcome Everybody!!

I'm bringing the bunny to the Sweet Celebrations Blog Hop.  I'm excited to represent my favorite holiday of all...Easter!

In our house we don't have many rigid traditions with holidays.  We usually find that memories get made anyway...like the dog who ate all my sisters' Easter eggs before she could find them...or the dog that ate most of a 2.5lb chocolate bunny when we were at church (and lived to bark the tale).  Hmmm...I think I'm going to be keeping a close eye on our new puppy next Easter.

Oda May has sent me some questions to answer for y'all...

Q)  What is your favorite holiday memory???

A)  My mom always made "Ham & Green Stuff" for Easter.  It is a regional delicacy where she grew up in St. Mary's County, Maryland.  Through the magic of the internet we've discovered it's called Stuffed Ham or St. Mary's County Ham and she took quite a few liberties with the recipe.   We never had kale...we used celery and onions.  It is delicious served with biscuits on Easter Sunday.  We also made it for either Thanksgiving or Christmas but it's expensive and labor intensive so definitely not something to add to the weekly menu.   Now we try to have it when we can all be together to enjoy it...preferably during the winter months so we can cool it outside.  I was what my mom called "the whopper-chopper" which meant I was in charge of making the cabbage just the right size in the food processor.

Q) Do you prefer to celebrate with cupcakes, cake pops, or just plain ol' cake?
A) BROWNIES!!

Q) Are you holding on to a particular fabric that you can't bring yourself to use?
A) I have finally started cutting my beloved American Jane Building Blocks Stash.  It's my all-time favorite and I'm using it (and my other American Jane stuff) to make a king size great granny square quilt for my bed...on point!

Q) Do your kids/pet/spouses help or hinder your creative process?
A)I'm pretty sure I'd have more time to do stuff without them in my life but then who would I do it for???

Q)If you and your best friend were going to dress up as a horse, would you be the rear end so that she could be the front?  Tell us how you became friends.

A)I'm pretty sure my BFF Amie would not be involved in shenanigans that involved a horse costume.  If we did, though, I'm pretty sure I'd get relegated to the back (don't tell her I said this but she is a bossy butt.).  We met in a college English class.  At first she thought I was weird and her suspicions were confirmed upon getting to know me better.

Q)What sewing accomplishment are you most proud of?
A) Being part of the bake shop and being in a book has been very very fun, but I have to say the thing that gives me the most lasting satisfaction is seeing my quilts become forts, superhero capes, and snuggling necessities.  I can still cozy up in a quilt my mother made from me even though she is long gone.  I like to say quilters are the only people who can give a warm hug after they are gone.  What a superpower!  I am happy to continue my mother's tradition of giving handmade things to my family.

To celebrate, I'm sharing a recipe that I think would be just perfect for Easter.  This is a recipe we served at my sister's wedding...they really do melt in your mouth!  They also hold shape like a sugar cookie so you can cut them out in to shapes...just refrigerate after cutting and before baking to firm up the dough.

To celebrate with me, Moda will be giving away 1 copy of Sweet Celebrations and a Jelly Roll to a lucky reader.  To enter to win, leave a comment on this post telling me what you'd drink to wash down these buttery cookies.

Mary
