New Moda Bakeshop + Layer Cake Giveaway

I was so worried the wind would knock this quilt straight into the water.  Total panic the whole time.

Hey everyone! Hope on over to The Moda Bakeshop to see my latest project over there. You may remember the back of this quilt (which is square despite how this pictures looks)...

So stop over there to see the front! It is a jewel box quilt that I decided to do after making this modified jewel box in American Jane Happy Campers.

I wanted to see this quilt in lighter colors.  Thanks to the awesome folks at Moda, I got my opportunity.  I saw the new Sunkissed line by Sweetwater and I knew this was my opportunity to make a Jewel Box Quilt that would really shine.   Do y'all ever redo a quilt like that?

This is my favorite bake shop project ever!  To celebrate, I'm giving away a Moda Hoopla layer cake for you to use.  These are my favorite precuts because they are SO versatile.
Sorry, it's JUST the layer cake...I recycled this pic from my bakeshop project.  I'm photo lazy like that.
How do you enter???

1)Leave me a comment letting me know if you've ever had a quilt you just HAD to remake and why!

2)Bonus entry for followers- old or new...just leave a comment on this post if you are a follower.

3)One bonus entry comment for my Charlie Brown quilt-alongers- I hope you have had fun!  If you are still working on your quilt and not yet finished, that's ok.  We will be sharing our progress with a link party on March 15.

A few chances to win here.   If you've got a minute, I'd really appreciate a comment over at the Bake Shop, too. Even though this is my 4th project with them I still get so nervous hoping people will like it, comment on it, and (the ultimate compliment) MAKE IT!

I'll pick a winner March 16...that's my 9th wedding anniversary, y'all!  After that we will be on the march to the big 1-0.

*US entries only (If outside the US sorry, it's a shipping thing...I hate having to go to a real postal agent vs. the automated box thing plus the whole cost issue).

  2. Your latest quilt is gorgeous, but then again, how could it not be... you made it! Can't wait to find the time to make this one! (p.s. - I'm a follower too)

  3. Totally funny to read about your fears that it would blow into the water. I just came here from Moda Bakeshop, saw the pic on the bridge, and thought "Boy, I'd worry that the wind would blow that quilt right into the water!"

I've never remade a quilt. Working on my very first one! I'm a total newbie.

  4. I've never remade a quilt, it takes me too long just to make one! But if I did, I'd choose to make more than one bullseye quilt. So many possible settings!

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm a new follower! I saw your post over at Moda and I've already bookmarked this one to make soon. :-)

  6. There is one quilt that I am actually about to remake soon. It's by Eleanor Burns and it's called Dessert Time. It only takes one jelly roll and one layer cake and it makes a pretty large quilt. I made the first one in Moda's Frolic line, and I was very happy with it. It's on my list to do again in Moda's Smores for a Christmas gift.

  7. Haven't remade a quilt yet! But I am just getting started. I can't decide what I want to make first! LOL! I have a design in mind, but I will definitely be looking at your design. I really like it.

  8. New follower - I saw you on the Moda Bake Shop site. I like the Jewel Box pattern a lot.

  9. The quilt pattern I have made over and over (and I never get tired of it) is Disappearing Nine-Patch. I've made it in batiks, florals, Christmas, red-white and blue.....it's so versatile.

  10. I haven't made very many quilts and I have never remade any. I have one quilt I might remake some day.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I am a follower and I just love both versions of your quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I am a follower and love your quilt. I remade my first quilt which was queen sized and all hand pieced. I literally unpicked it all and redid it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. There are a few quilts I have remade as gifts since the patterns were quick. But usually after the second one I am bored with it or even if I use the same fabric in several quilts.

    ReplyDelete
  14. And I'm following you ;-) can't wait to poke around your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am hooked on the disappearing nine patch pattern. It is so easy, and the finished product always looks so good! Very "user friendly".

  16. Beautiful quilt. I am a new quilter so I have not remade any quilts. Great idea though!

  17. I am a follower - gfc and reader

  18. You know, I have never really considered that question. Right off the top of my head I don't think I've remade a quilt. I'm usually so happy to get one completed and on to the next.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have a made a few very similar quilts but not exact. These are very pretty. I love the back too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I am a new follower. I came via the Moda Bake Shop to check out your blog because I really like this quilt. Thanks.

  21. I've never remade a quilt - my schedule is so busy that I don't get a lot of time and there are so many pretty patterns out there. I'd love to be entered into your giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This pattern is so beautiful and way easier than it looks - thanks for the great tutorial and the giveaway opportunity.

There is a really fun quilt I am making from one of the moda tutorials. I made a practice one using some charm packs I had lying around and it turned out super cute. I really liked that one and decided to make it again using sugar pop. Its fun when your "practice" turns out to be a blanket you really love! ... otherwise I usually try to only making 1 of each pattern, because I just started quilting in June 2010 and have so much to try out! :)

  23. I'm too much of a beginner to re-do a quilt. Both of your versions are great!

    ReplyDelete
  24. i just love this quilt. I think it will be the first moda bake shop I actually make - I've got a layer cake of Pure I was thinking of breaking into. This is beautiful. Great job and thanks for the giveaway. And, on your question, I've only done redo's at the block level. Once I get a quilt put together, I'm usually ready for something different.

  25. I have made a Jewel Box before for a dear friend for whom I also had made quilts for her three children. I used the scraps from the children quilts to make her a scrappy Jewel Box. LOVELY design! Your directions will be very handy when making it from a line of fabric rather than scraps. Very inspired to make another!

My "must remake quilt": There is a Pinwheel Baby quilt (actually a Moda Bakeshop recipe) that I have made a few different times; VERY quick and fun to make with different lines of fabric.

I absolutely need you to know----I LOVE LOVE LOVE the picture with the quilt hanging from the bridge!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Also, I am a follower (a new one---and thankful to have found you via Moda Bakeshop).

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've remade log cabin quilts - once I got started, I was having too much fun and decided to "keep on keeping on!"

    ReplyDelete
  28. I made a mystery quilt that my son asked for. Of course, I gave it to him. I plan to make another one for me some day! Thanks for the chance at the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm a beginner quilter and so far I've only had to redo the actual blocks. This quilt is beautiful - thanks for sharing.

  31. Great quilt. I remade the disappearing nine patch. It is so easy and looks good. Two neighbors were having babies, and so my teen daughters and I worked on two disappearing nine patches.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Love both versions of the quilt - lucky you to be able to do that! I have never even thought about doing something like that, I prefer to make one of a kind gifts for family and friends.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am a follower - thanks for sharing, love your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have never remade a quilt pattern but I have thought about it with a few. I just have too many new things I want to try to go back and do something twice.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't know if I have ever redone a quilt for myself. I have made several baby quilt patterns over and over in different colors. Love your quilt! Great job! It's my 9 year this may. I am begging for an Italy trip next year, or an island somewhere. Just something! Didn't have a very good honeymoon. He owes me :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I just bought my first sewing machine, so I haven't had the chance to make my first quilt (let alone, remake one), lol. I'd love to get started on one, though, and that layer cake would really help!

    ReplyDelete
  39. These are both beautiful - thank you for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Beautiful design. There are so many wonderful designs and I have so little time that I haven't remade a pattern yet.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have a US p.o. box, so that totally counts, right? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  42. love this quilt. I have made many of my quilt patterns more than once. Especially scrappy patterns because none of them look alike! Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I just HAD to remake my 1st quilt...not because I WANTED to, but because a friend saw a pic of & just knew he HAD to have one just like it for his mom. There are a couple of patterns that I know I will HAVE to make more than once (houndstooth)...just gotta get through this "to-do" list so I can sew for myself again!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congrats on your tutorial! I've remade one quilt--sort of. I used a different pattern, but all of the same fabrics, because I was so sad to see them leave my house. Now the real kicker is that I made that quilt top, oh, 2 years ago, and still haven't finished it off. I guess I just love the fabrics so much, I don't want them to leave my presence!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love being a follower of your blog. Looking forward to making my own jewel box quilt. I will definitely use your tutorial.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have done the disappearing 9 patch twice and love how different it looks, just like yours. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  47. There have been several I've been so happy with when I finished them and have them in my journal to remake but then I move on to the next. Love the jewel box pattern.

  50. There isn't a quilt that I needed to remake but I'm currently in the process of making a quilt using Robert K.'s Mingle....It's a combo of green, pink and brown...I can't believe I've already accomplished 1/10th of the sewing of the blocks!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ok, I'm so following you right now...just don't look behind you heehee

    ReplyDelete
  52. Both quilts are gorgeous but I do love the Sunkissed line.
I have used many different patterns and I've probably used them all more than one time. I find a fabric that I am totally loving and I will set it on my cutting table and marinate in it for a day or so and it seems to just draw me to the pattern that it wants to become.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I follow you on my blogger and I also have you on my google page in my enhanced bookmarks so that I can pop on and check out all the awesome blogs and find inspiration from all the creative quilters out here in blogland.

  71. I once made a quilt like one I saw in a pottery barn magazine, big blocks same size in width but various lenghts so as to offset them. I have since made many quilts like this since i like it's simplicity and beauty. I have done it in fall colors and a couple different colors for a baby quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I am now a follower of your blog as well. Looking forward to it. I love your quilt.

  73. The very first quilt I made was a Double Irish Chain, with the "chain" set on a white background. But I loved the Irish Chain so much that I made my MIL one but this time the chain was on a colored, patterned background. I love how each quilt, same pattern, different colors turned out!

  81. I really like this quilt in the sunkissed!
I made the zig zag quilt from crazy mom quilts and it turned out great. I made it with boy colors so now I would like to try and make another one more feminine. Also maybe add some boards or a pieced backing.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I haven't made too many quilts, but I did remake one, simply because I have twins and they needed matching quilts on their beds. :) Very cute quilt by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  83. You did a beautiful job on this quilt and tutorial. It goes on my To Do list!

The quilt I have to do over is a square in square pattern. I did it in formal colors but would love to do it way more modern!

  89. I have made a pattern called Girls Best Friend 5 times now. It's a super quick and easy lap quilt that makes a great gift, and is my go to pattern when I need one.

Also, if you pick me, it's my birthday on the 16th!!! Haha, no pressure.

Luckily, I have never had to re-make a quilt, although there us one I am not happy with that I might have to re-do.

    ReplyDelete
  102. love how you made this one easy! i have a book with the pattern and it has me doing everything NOT easy to make it, so i never even thought about it. i like to start and stop sewing projects between work, so anything complex, well, i get super lost. i want to try this with repo 1930s fabrics.

the only quilts i've made more than once are double irish chains and the new wave quilt. i'll make one and someone will want one in their colors! also make a lot of samplers with blocks from swaps

    ReplyDelete
  103. I'm all for pastels and pretty colors, and "Sunkissed" is a favorite line of mine, but that "Hoopla" quilt is to die for! I've actually just found the quilt I just HAVE to make, and I adored the color (purple) and the pattern (one featured on Modabakeshop.com). I've never made a quilt for myself, and so my bed is pathetically bare. I've decided the gorgeous purple quilt is MY quilt, so I just HAVE to make it. :D

  116. I have remade one quilt pattern 3 times. It was for a very simple baby quilt and it went to gether so easily and I know it so well, that it is my go to pattern, if I decide to make a baby quilt for someone that I have not gotten a pattern picked out for.

  132. I love the jewel box pattern, too - have used it to make several baby quilts! Also, I had to make one of my commissioned quilts for myself because I loved it so much.

  133. I am still working on my first quilt, a dresden plate for my mom. Only 3 years now :(

  135. Thanks for the opportunity to win Hoopla..its a great line! I made a quilt for my daughter and liked it so much I used the same pattern in different colors to make one for my son.

  136. Thanks for the chance to win... there have been a number of quilts that I have just had to make usually due to the color combinations, but I only get as far as buying the fabric. Then by the time I get back to the fabric that would have been just perfect for that particular quilt, I can't remember what it was... sad, I know. Congrats on your wedding anniversary; March is a good month to get married... I am actually tying the knot on the 12th!

  137. I love your photo on the bridge...so nice! I am recreating a quilt that I made for charity and loved it so much that I want one for myself in almost the same colorway. Thanks for the chance to win this nice layer cake give away!

  138. Beautiful quilt. Love the colors. This is my first discovery of your blog. Thanks for the give away opportunity.

  139. Congrats on the lovely MBS entry! That is one of my favorite quilt patterns and yet I have still never made one. Love seeing both color options - thanks for the motivation! I can't recall ever remaking a quilt. Mainly, because I'm too lazy. :)

  140. . LOVE your photos and BOTH quilts ! I've not remade a pattern yet ; I'm newer to quilting ; I have made 2 different quilts with pinwheels in them , but that's as close as I've gotten !

  142. I was looking for this pattern and now you posted it. How funny is that? It looks great with the fabric you chose.

My fave pattern that I've remade a few times is the Disappearing Nine Patch from Rachel Griffith featured on the Moda Bakeshop site.

Thanks for the chance to win such fun fabric.

  144. I love your quilt. I made a Jewel Box quilt out of scraps several years ago before precuts came out. It would be so fun and so much faster to make one using a layer cake. The only quilt I can remember remaking was a log cabin when I first started making quilts about 25 years ago. There's so many different things I want to make - I usually move on to something new. I'm always glad to see designers show their patterns in more than one though.
Thanks for a chance to win.

  145. Your quilt is great! I don't redo a quilt because there are too many others I want to start.

  147. I am a new follower and absolutely love your jewel box quilt in both colorways. A quilt I've made over and over which always looks different depending on fabric is Lucky Stars. The Hoopla fabric is pretty wonderful.

  148. I had to make a quick quilt as a table topper for my table outside with the Sunkissed fabric line. I love it so much! It screams spring to me.

  149. Beautiful quilts. I've only remade one quilt, but I did it twice. I made a modified 9-patch for my brother out of colorful flannel. I liked it so well that I used the scraps (+) to make two smaller quilts for my grandsons.
thanks for the chance to win. More fabric!

  150. Found you through the Moda Bake Shop. I wanted to see it in the other colorway - the brighter one is STUNNING! Thanks for sharing the pattern with us!

  151. Beautiful quilt, and one that I will definitely make at some point in the not-too-distant future! One of the very first quilts I made, a baby quilt from a Mary Engelbreit book, was so much fun and came out so well that I have purchased fabric to make it again, in different colors. I love having a baby quilt on hand so I'm prepared when I need a gift for a new little one.

  152. Both quilts are pretty - I totally get why you had to make it again in Sunkissed.

I've made a couple of checker board quilts with charms, just so I could use the charm pack....and because making a checker board is way easy.

  153. Oooh! Gorgeous quilt! I love the photograph of it too! I've never had to re-make a quilt, but I did make 2 at once, one as a gift and one for me!

  155. Love the quilt and I love how you used the sunkissed line of fabric. Since I have only made four quilts (I am just a beginner) I can't really say I have yet remade a quilt because I was in love with it so much, but I am sure that is going to happen. For now, my list just keeps growing with all the quilts I want to make, yours included.

  160. Nope, I've never had to remake a quilt because I've only ever made ONE quilt! I'm not a fan of remaking anyway - too much effort! I try to give myself one shot - and if it doesn't work out, I try to make it work anyway :)

  161. Lots of repeated baby quilts...love your work!

  162. This just became my "have to make" quilt. I am going on a quilt retreat and I "have" to bring this! Thanks for the inspiration!

  164. I really love it in the new lighter colors - it makes me hopeful that spring will be here eventually :) I have redone half of a quilt in another color before. I had a star quilt I made in navy and red, and then when I set all the blocks out, the red didn't look right, so I redid all of those in navy.
