What your kids think about quilting...

My seven year old is a writer at heart and while I love to get his journals back from school I always cringe in fearful anticipation when reading them, wondering what embarrassing thing he will reveal. One time after our worst episode EVER disciplining him (upon which all legos were confiscated, including the new Christmas presents), he came home from school the next day and was all smiles telling me that he wrote something about "the lego incident" that was so funny his teacher sent him to other teachers to read it and laugh about it.  I still haven't read that paper but CPS has not showed up so I guess we're good.   You can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when I saw these pages...

" My favorite thing about my mom is she sews and quilts.  I like it because it makes me cozy.  It is so cozy that it is hard to wake up in the morning.  Do you think it is weird my mom sells patterns and her blog is called the tulip patch???"

I felt so fuzzy inside reading about my quilts making him feel cozy.  I love seeing them snuggled up on the couch in a mama made quilt.  I am not crazy about them fighting over quilts (which they do) but it is sweet that it is important to them.  I think I've done a lot better job lately of staying balanced and not quilting TOO much to the point where everyone resents it.  I am now out of the honeymoon phase with quilting and that is a good thing.  I love it still as much as I did, but I don't have to be sewing all the time anymore and I have gained a lot of control in the area of stashing, too.

Has anyone in your family ever commented on your quilting habit hobby?

  1. I felt warm & fuzzy when my 20 yr old daughter commented on one of my quilt pics on Facebook that I actually made quilting "cool"...yeah, it was a good day :)

  2. That is really adorable. I love when they give you props for your efforts. I've gotten a few like that over the years ... unfortunately, like you, a lot of our less than shining moments are shared via classroom writing assignments. I think the teachers do it that way on purpose to make sure we stay in line, LOL!!!!

  3. I've been in the honeymoon phase since I started last June and can't get out of it. I think about it the whole time I'm at work and as soon as dinner is made and over with, I am back at the machine if I can be :) Fortunately its just me and my hubby and the dog for now... and they are both pretty patient with my obsession.

Such a sweet comment from your son, I look forward to having kids that I can make cozy with quilts filled with love one day too :)

  4. Little Boys are the best. I have 3 (ages 18,15, and 12) They love that their mama quilts. In fact they feel bad for other kids whose Mom's don't.

It is always their first thought when their hearts are stired. This past Christmas the oldest asked me if I wouldn't make a quilt for his friend because he "lives alone, doesn't like to pay for heating, and has no pressents under the tree."

  5. This is such a wonderful paper. Be sure you keep it so when you are ready to wring his neck when he is a teenager you can read it to remember why you love him so much, lol.
