I was inspired to make this quilt & pattern by a 70's purse seen at at thrift store. The thrift store purse was a little ugly and made of different colors but I wanted to do a monochrome version as a quilt using Moda Crossweaves (love them!) as the hex fabrics. That week the Modern Quilt Guild came out with the Monochrome Quilt Challenge. I knew I had to enter. Wish me luck!
This was a fun pattern for me..I figured out a shortcut during construction that saved a yard of fabric and made the quilt very fun to make. There are only 12 Half Square Triangles and no bias edges so this was a pretty easy pattern to make. In fact, I want to make it again in honeycomb colors. I think this pattern would work well as a rainbow (perhaps gray and black shadows) or even using feature fabrics in the hexes. It measures 54"x54" but because of the geometric design it looks very rectangular to me.
If you notice my header, I've changed things up a bit. I found THE picture of my mom and me in front of the real life tulip patch that inspired the blog name. It was so hard for me to wait to put up the new header until the newest pattern on it came out. I was so excited!
This pattern is available in my etsy shop as a PDF and will be available as a hard copy to quilt shops. If you are interested in ordering this or my other patterns for a shop, contact me at marylane_brown at yahoo dot com.
That is a very cool pattern!! I think it would be cool as a rainbow. I might have to try it this summer. In fact, I think I will. I am going to put it on my to do list.
ReplyDeleteYou would be proud of me. I thought up a new MBS pattern yesterday. I will work on it rather quickly before my idea gets taken again. This is all from my head so if someone takes it they are reading my mind.
Your header is wonderful. I have been looking for photos for mine. I may wait until my peanuts quilt gets done.
Love it. Just ordered it thru etsy! Keep up the awesome work!!!
