I have not had time to read quilting blogs a lot in the last year or two. I joined instagram to keep up with my favorites...andie johnson, crazy mom, nannette merrill, and others. I am also posting what is going on in my sewing room. No kids (except one furkid whose internet privacy isn't important to me!), just sewing. It's been really fun and SIMPLE...that's big for me Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-20308024542213860072015-11-16T22:06:00.000-06:002015-11-16T22:06:07.264-06:00vintage puppy love quilt
This quilt finally made it out of my head and into the real world. I got the puppy pillow fabric for a quarter at a thrift store and used the accuquilt apple core die for the rest. A lot of the fabric was thrifted, free, or left over. I really wanted to make a single fabric border with the apple core die. I didn't purchase enough fabric, so I had to put on my Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-75053189916677080812015-10-13T13:06:00.002-05:002015-10-13T13:08:00.597-05:00Almost there...
Haven't been here in a while and I am honestly surprised I figured out my password again. I am still in nursing school and I am officially halfway done. Every time I leave the hospital I am so grateful to have this opportunity and feel like I made the right decision when I decided I wanted to become a nurse.
Since I am almost done with school I decided to almost finish this Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-74465144628273789532015-02-16T20:07:00.000-06:002015-02-16T20:07:09.104-06:00The last finish.
I haven't posted in a while because my quilting time is very, very limited. I am still quilting, but just not with the regularity a blog needs to really thrive. I have a good great excuse...I am living out a long held dream by going to nursing school. Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I will be a Registered Nurse in less than 2 years.

I haven't been sewing a lot for a couple of reasons, not the leash of which was some pain in my arms caused by part sewing, part electronics. I was given the opportunity by accuquilt to try a new die and I decided it would be nice to have another odd-angled die in my collection. These are my favorite projects to do, but they are the hardest on my arms because of the cutting angles Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-72735347764197158672013-10-18T20:17:00.004-05:002013-10-18T20:17:57.151-05:00blog fatique
Looking on my post history, I seem to be cranking out blog posts at the whopping rate of one a quarter.
I just haven't been interested in writing or reading blogs lately. So much felt so forced (buy this! try this! how yummy!) or repetitive (pot stirring, dramatic diatribes, navel gazing). I do really enjoy the virtual scrapbook of my quilts, so I will probably continue to post many ofUnknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-31187462446782984222013-07-25T10:09:00.001-05:002013-07-25T10:09:09.890-05:00summertime blues.
Summer.
My old enemy.
I have been plugging along trying to get through the summer. With 3 kids home all day, a new puppy for my husband (that of course *I* get to potty train during the day), and the blazing heat/humidity of south Texas, I felt very overwhelmed. Zero energy. Zero sewing. And that's ok. HOW do people do it?
My last project was this Unknownnoreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-66732178117561379112013-04-24T07:41:00.001-05:002013-04-24T07:41:21.175-05:00Finish: Seamstress Stars
I feel I am always apologizing for bad pictures. My sisters visited me this weekend and since the quilt was made for one of them, it went home. I had planned on taking some pics while we were at a strawberry patch, but we never made it there due to extenuating circumstances. I'm sharing what pictures I do have.
This quilt reminded me of my mama the whole way through. It was probably Unknownnoreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-38877833770650119442013-04-17T11:30:00.002-05:002013-04-17T11:30:31.440-05:00Drugs are bad, y'all.
I was digging through my camera from February and saw this little gem I just had to share...it's a project my twins did for President's Day.
I was so glad to have two kids in the class, because for a minute there I was freaking out. They had to copy a little mini bio from a sheet the teacher had given them. I have been enjoying reading the Bible passages about the Resurrection this week. We should think about it all year long but the flesh is weak so it's nice to have the reminder on the calendar to think about Jesus, his love for us, and his sacrifice...and of course his victory over sin & death!
Every time I read the scripture about the crucifixion and resurrection I come away with Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-87989245656659049892013-03-18T10:39:00.002-05:002013-03-18T14:24:48.257-05:00making the move...

I have finished with this quilt for a while but the sunlight has been pretty terrible and I wanted to get gorgeous pictures. We went to a beautiful park this morning and I brought the quilt and camera along, but 3 hours later and my tiny walnut sized bladder struck before I ever took the first picture...backyard pics will have to do!

I don't know if the rest of you are like me, but if I am about to go on a trip and needing to pack or clean, the logical step for me is to start a brand new quilt.
I was looking at my little paper pieced diamonds and thought "I wonder what this would look like if I used my accuquilt diamond die." That thought was followed by "oh, but then I'd have to learn Y seams." I have gotten to a standstill on my son's Mississippi State quilt...need more fabric. Why is Kona Ash so hard to find in real life???
Looking for the Kona Ash (in Joann's) I decided to treat myself to just a *tiny* bit of DS Quilts fabrics.
They are so pretty! I really shouldn't buy more fabric, but I needed wanted those oranges and blues to add a little color depth to Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-84198300395335055322013-02-12T12:01:00.001-06:002013-02-12T12:01:22.456-06:00Have you seen this missing quilt?
I know this is a long shot, but one of my quilts has gone missing while it was not in my care and I would desperately like to be reunited with it. I poured a lot of love into this one and was planning on saving it for future grandchildren.

I just wanted to let everyone know (in case you wanted to join in the fun) that I will be designing a row for Patchwork Posse's
Round Robin.
This year's theme is Winter Wonderland, and my creative inspiration on that theme is pretty limited. Christmas Day is usually t-shirt weather here near Houston, Texas. Still, I absolutely promise no palm trees or flip flop blocks to ruin Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-37345871138138552112013-02-05T09:24:00.000-06:002013-02-05T09:24:50.509-06:00One last thing...
Is it just me or is a densely quilted quilt a lot warmer? I have finished quilting my great granny quilt and now I just need to do the binding.
I put loops between the sashing and the printed area. These were very fun to do.
...
I added leaves in the sashing. I LOVE quilting leaves.
I did a spiral rose in the center of each block. They are kind of "Unknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-29228625955324659102013-01-25T09:33:00.001-06:002013-01-25T09:34:40.053-06:00basting & the mysteries of human behavior.
I woke up this morning and decided that today was a good day to baste this big honkin' Great Granny Square quilt. I went upstairs to my big ironing board to have more room only to realize that my "real iron" is like a toy compared to my crafting iron. This is how you know you are a quilter for real.
This is my backing fabric...and my spray baste messy iron.

While some may argue that an unbound quilt isn't truly a finish, I'm calling this one done. Whenever I know a lot of pointless waiting around is in my future, I stop binding quilts at home and make them my to-go project. With 3 boys starting spring baseball, I'm going to save that task for waiting around at practices.
I really love this quilt. It is about 40"x40". I had Unknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343427788952580851.post-46862514746223588622013-01-04T17:03:00.001-06:002013-01-04T17:03:52.996-06:002013, here we go!
Hope everyone had a great Christmas & New Year. I didn't make my goal of having 3 quilts made...in fact I have not made one to completion. My machine started going crazy on me and my stitches were looking terrible. Lots of thread shred, breakage, & bobbin issues. I am debating on whether to see my buddy at the sewing machine shop or not.

This year I decided I wanted all of my kids to have bathrobes. I checked my trusty Land's End (I really hate shopping for clothes in real life). $35 each x 3 boys = YIKES! I made one robe for my middle son from some Alabama fabric my mother-in-law bought for me (thanks!). The other boys don't like Alabama. I priced some fleece at Hobby Lobby & wal-mart. We are gearing up for the thanksgiving hustle and, like always, I sew best when I have a jillion other things I SHOULD be doing. I decided to follow
this tutorial and make some crumb blocks (yes, I needed a tutorial for that...it was really helpful!).
I decided to invite one of my children to help me since crumb blocks are inherently messy and the tutorial suggested it. My middleUnknownnoreply@blogger.com6
