Chocolate + Quilt = Double Win

A while back I lamented on ye olde blog that I wanted to take on more challenging quilts. Proving God does indeed have a sense of humor, shortly thereafter I received a request to sew up a quilt for market. I'm gonna keep it real and let you know I contacted someone and let them know I was willing and able should a need arise, which is the step right before begging.  I said YES and then opened up the PDF of the pattern...1300 or so triangles. *GULP*

Luckily for me, the pattern involved some Laundry Basket Quilts HST Exchange Papers.  I never knew those existed before.  Have you ever used those?

It really made the process go by much more quickly.  I kept track of my progress and it was 24 hours of sewing.  I thought I was fast!   I even cheated by having my mother-in-law and 2 sisters in town for my husband's deacon ordination.  They helped with pressing, cutting apart triangles, and trimming dog ears.  It was a HUGE help!  THANKS GIRLS!

If you are interested in remaking this quilt, I believe it will be a free pattern with the purchase of fat eighth bundles of Three Sisters Double Chocolat Fabric.   The pattern uses a fat eighth bundle but you will have some nice leftovers if you are careful with your paper pinning.  .  Since everything was rushed I got a 1/4 yard bundle and so I have a lot of leftovers and I can't wait to show you what I am doing with it.  These aren't the fabrics I am attracted to at a quilt shop but they always look so much better in my house than the things I would normally pick.

Some parenting advice...

If a child asks you where to put his artwork and you say "stick it on the fridge", it would be wise to let them know glue sticks are not a part of that process. Yay for having all summer together, right???? The winner of the giveaway from My Fabric Friend :

THe salt air jelly roll and charm pack - for this:

A giveaway...and you all win.

There's a new fabric shop in town folks...and I wanted to tell you about it.

My Fabric Friend  is an online quilt shop run by Karolyn Stewart.  Love pre-cuts?  Well, she's got 'em!  Karolyn started the site after frustration with the spotty pre-cut selections and s-l-o-w shipping when she was shopping for her own projects.  She puts pictures of the all  prints within the pre-cut bundle on her site- genius!   Her shipping prices are great, too...
  • $3.00 on orders up to $10.00
  • $5.00 on all orders over $10.00

Karolyn has graciously agreed to sponsor a giveaway to all of you...that's right ALL!  She's giving a 10% discount to everyone with the code TULIPPATCH .

But wait...there's more...
I'd pick this!

One lucky reader will receive a jelly roll or layer cake of their choice.  To win, just visit your new fabric friend, Karolyn and tell me (in a comment on this post) what you would pick from her shop- EASY.  If you want a bonus chance, just sign up for her newsletter and leave an extra comment telling me you did.

I am going to close this giveaway May 25.  Good luck!   Just a heads up, I will probably not respond to comments during this giveaway- I'm redoing a patio set  and still on puppy patrol!  If you have a question unrelated to the giveway just drop me an email.

humans aren't the only ones...

While pruning back my jasmine, I found the sweetest little bird's nest.  Do you spot the selvage?  Humans aren't the only ones who cozy our nests with pretty bits of fabric.  I think this one is Jennifer Paginelli Sis Boom fabric just in case you're wondering...

I have been a little absent here.  There are a few things going on.  One is spring fever (hence the pruning!).  I've been sewing some but unfortunately I can't show the fruits of my labor just yet...you know those secret projects people annoyingly talk about.   I will tell you that after my post yearning to make harder quilts I was promptly commissioned with a quilt with 1300 triangles.  Yup...me and my big fat mouth.  It was fun, though, and only a few hairs turned gray in the process.  Pics to come after Quilt Market *wink*.

The not so secret project is still this guy...
He is not as much work as I feared a puppy would be.  That's not to say he isn't a handful. He is 100% Scottish Terrier.  Short Dog Syndrome.  He is keeping us on our toes!   He already knows Sit, Down, Play Dead, Shake, Drop It, Come, & High Five.   He really thinks he is hot stuff.  I have no idea where he got that impression, do you??
